My latest COLLOQUIUM podcast is now available to download at Sequart.org. Prepare yourself for 90 hot minutes of sass and sorcery with one of the best new writers in comics – Kurtis J. Wiebe. Kurtis talks about how his series breaks down social barriers, goblin punk bands, and where the Rat Queens would likely cause trouble if they lived in our world…
I wrote a review of the graphic novel, DOOMBOY by writer/artist Tony Sandoval. It’s up at Sequart. For those of you who haven’t heard of this excellent book, it’s a coming-of-age tale about a boy who plays doom metal songs to his departed girlfriend over the radio waves.
Very excited to see Cody Walker’s book The Anatomy of Zur-en-Arrh: Understanding Grant Morrison’s Batman on the shelves. It’s a fascinating and enlightening examination of Morrison’s multi-layered and historic interpretation of the Dark Knight. I know because I spent a lot of time editing it and making suggestions for new chapters and analysis. Ever wonder what the @#$% was going on with Grant Morrison’s Batman run? Stop hurting your brain. Cody Walker sacrificed his melon for you.
The Anatomy of Zur-en-Arrh: Understanding Grant Morrison’s Batman also features an interview with the man himself, Grant Morrison.
I helped out the Sequart Research & Literacy Organization with the editing on this new book by Julian Darius which offers a critical exploration of legendary creator Jack Kirby’s comic book adaption of 2001: A Space Odyssey. The title does not lie. Unbelievably @#$%ing weird comic. But it makes for a fascinating essay.
